Zoo earns record income

The National Zoological Gardens in Dehiwela has recorded the highest income in a single day this year on the World Children’s Day which was on 01 October, netting over five million rupees.
Officials also said that more than 25,000 persons had visited the Gardens on the Children’s Day. On average the zoo gets an average of 5,000 visitors a day.
The total income earned by the National Zoo, Dehiwela on 01 October was Rs. 5,080,377.
The Pinnawala Elephant Conservation Centre received an income of Rs. 947,000. Pinnawala Zoo and the Ridiyagama Safari Park earned Rs 949,200 and Rs 856,000 respectively on the same day.
National Zoological Gardens Director General Tilak Premakanta said that although the National Zoological Department admitted children and those above 60 years to the zoos free of charge on 01 Oct., it was the first time that such a high income had been recorded.
