Yugadanavi meets 300MW shortfall caused by Norochcholai breakdown
CEB engineers are not convinced

The Yugadanavi Power Plant at Kerawalapitiya is meeting the shortfall of 300MW electricity caused by the breakdown of the Norochcholai Power Plant Unit 3.
Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday said so when he visited the site of the 350MW Sobadhanavi LNG Plant under construction also at Kerawalapitiya.
The Minister said that 300MW Yugadanavi Power Plant had recommenced operations recently after the Ministry took measures to supply furnace oil.
Wijesekera also said that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation would provide diesel, Naphtha and Furnace Oil to the Ceylon Electricity Board-maintained power plants, countrywide.
However, senior CEB engineers said that it was unlikely that Yugadanavi could meet the shortage caused by the breakdown of Norochcholai Plant Unit 3.
