Young Journalist of the Year off on Indian scholarship

Ms. Tharushi Weerasinghe receives the Award from Mr. Kumar Nadesan, Joint Chairman, Organising Committee, Journalism Awards for Excellence 2022

Ms. Tharushi Weerasinghe of the Sunday Times left last week to follow an advanced study course at MASCOM (Malayala School of Communications) as the recipient of the annual Lakshman Kadirgamar scholarship, the Sri Lanka Press Institute announced.

The scholarship is offered by the Lakshman Kadirgamar Foundation together with the Malayala Manorama Group of Newspapers in memory of the late Sri Lankan Foreign Minister to the winner of the Denzil Peiris Young Journalist of the Year presented at the 24th Edition of the Journalism Awards for Excellence 2022 program organized by The Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka in partnership with the Sri Lanka Press Institute at the Empire Ballroom, Mt. Lavinia Hotel.

SriLankan Airlines sponsored Ms. Weerasinghe’s air travel to Kerala.MASCOM is one of the leading journalism schools in India and Ms. Weerasinghe is the tenth recipient of the award.
