Yevan David placed Top Five at the European Karting Championship
Yevan Ranasinghe David the 13-year old Karting Champion from Sri Lanka continued his impressive performance following the successes in Belgium and Germany.
The FIA European Karting Championship round three, which was held last week in the South of Italy, attracted over 100 participants drawn from the best the world over. Yevan secured Pole position in his group and third overall in qualifying and thereby being the first Sri Lankan to achieve this feat.
He started his campaign in exceptional style winning the Race-Opener with guile and cracking pace. He then went onto record two top three finishes and three top five finishes. Despite having a difficult grid position in the final race, Yevan made early moves to slot himself into the fourth position and looked as though he might take a podium position.
Unfortunately, in view of a few mid-track overtaking maneuvers by few other drivers, he was pushed back to the ninth position, but made a remarkable recovery to reach the Top Five at the chequered flag. This was behind last year’s World Champion Freddy Slater and Keeble, both from UK.
Yevan now goes to Zuera in Spain for the second round of the championship of the Future Trophy and the final round of the European Championship, back in Italy.
Despite this being his first year of participation in the European Championship within a short pace of time, he continues to catch the attention of the Senior Motor Sport Body the FIA, and the motor sport in general.
He has created history by being the first Sri Lankan to hoist the nation’s flag on the world stage.
