General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) Joseph Stalin said that the education system has deteriorated to such an extent that even term test papers are being leaked. He said the western province Ministry of Education has spent close to 10 million rupees on the term test papers.

“Now, people have so little faith in the education system. Who knows if other papers have also been leaked?” Stalin speculated.

In January, the Department of Examinations cancelled the Agricultural Science II paper of the GCE A/L exam as it had been leaked.

“A person was arrested for leaking the paper. He is now out on bail. That’s it. The Ministry of Education has done nothing to determine how the suspect got hold of the paper or if there are officials at the Ministry involved. Things can only get worse under the current dispensation,” he said.
