Yasiru erases National Junior record as Chamal breaks meet record

Asian Junior Championship medallist Malith Yasiru excelled with a National Junior record performance in the men’s triple jump on the final day of the National Sports Festival at the Sugathadasa Stadium on Saturday.
The Kahawatta Central athlete who won the bronze medal at this year’s Asian Junior Athletics Championships in South Korea cleared a distance of 16.17 metres to erase the National Junior record of 16.07 metres held by Chamal Kumarasiri.
Incidentally Kumarasiri was the winner of the triple jump event on Saturday, while Yasiru was placed second behind Kumarasiri. Kumarasiri won the gold with a feat of 16.23 metres, a new meet record.Kumarasiri’s National Junior record of 16.07 had remained unchanged since 2016.
