Yannik Kumara (with 69 gross) and Kaya Daluwatta (with 74 gross) overcame tough course conditions to take the lead in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively after the first day’s play of the Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
There was a close competition in the boys’ category with K. Danushan (71), defending champion Nirekh Tejwani (72) and Haroon Aslam from Kandy (75) battling against adverse course conditions due to overnight rain.
In the girls’ category, Sherin Balasuriya was four shots behind Kaya with a gross score of 78 and Dhevinka Kanag-Iswaran was on 90. The first day’s results indicate stiff competition during the next two days of play.
