World’s largest single natural Blue Sapphire found in Ratnapura

The biggest natural blue sapphire had been found in Ratnapura and it weighed about 310 kilos (1.550,000 carats) and had been named the ‘Queen of Asia’, National Gem and Jewellery Authority said, yesterday.

Sources said the gem had been found in Batugedara in Ratnapura area and that it belongs to the Gemological Institute and Research (Pvt.) Limited.

The ‘Queen of Asia’ was displayed to the media for the first time yesterday (12) in Horana.
