World mourns Queen’s death

Sri Lankan MPs pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

Parliament yeserday observed a two-minute silence in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on Thursday night.There were only 10 MPs when the tribute was paid.Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena proposed that MPs should observe a two minutes silence, and requested a special condolence vote on another day.

Gunawardena said the Sri Lanka Parliament was grieved by the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

“She is also the head of Commonwealth states. We propose that Parliament takes up a special condolence vote on an agreed date,” the PM said.Chief Opposition Whip, Lakshman Kiriella, speaking on behalf of the Opposition, said Elizabeth II is loved by people around the world. (SI)
