Workshop to educate all MPs on Kotelawala Defence University Bill

Leader of the House and Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that the government had decided to educate all Members of Parliament on the Kotelawala Defence University Bill.

Minister Gunawardena told The Island that a special workshop would be held at the parliamentary complex on Aug 03 and the MPs of both the government and the Opposition would be invited to the workshop.

The Minister said that the workshop had been organised for the Members of Parliament in view of false information being disseminated about the Kotelawala Defence University bill. 

The workshop would be conducted by several scholars in the field of higher education, the Minister said.

 Minister Gunawardena said some critics had chosen to view the proposed legislation as a move to militarise the universities. “These are unfounded fears. Our government will never do anything that is inimical to the national interest and will protect and nurture free education.”
