A woman in an attempt to free her husband caught transporting illicit liquor bit the right hand of a Sub Inspector at Kanda Delgamuwa in the Warakapola police area on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip received by Kegalle Police, the Sub Inspector and two constables intercepted a three wheeler carrying hooch.

“We recovered 33 litres of kassipu and took one suspect into custody. However, the suspect’s wife rushed after hearing her husband shouting at policemen and bit the hand of the officer in charge of the raiding party,” a police official said.

Police held on to the 33-year-old suspect, a resident of Delgamuwa, Warakapola though his wife escaped during the commotion. The police are looking for her. (SF)
