Woman accused of causing serious injury to husband’s genitals with Giraya released on bail
A woman named W.P. Darshika Bhagya Madhavi Disanayake, a resident of Yahalegama in Anuradhapura, was taken into custody on suspicion of causing significant harm to her husband’s genital organ using a ‘Giraya’ (an areca nut cutter). She was brought before Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Nalaka Sanjeewa Jayasuriya and subsequently released on personal bail amounting to Rs. 200,000 with two sureties.
The incident, which took place during the daytime while her husband was asleep in their home, resulted in a two-inch injury to the victim’s genital organ. The injured man was promptly admitted to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital and later transferred to Polonnaruwa General Hospital for further medical treatment.
In response to the case, the magistrate ordered the police to arrange for a psychiatric evaluation of the suspect at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. The psychiatric assessment report is expected to be submitted on November 17.
The Kawarakkulama police are conducting further investigations.
