‘Withdraw case or face the consequences’
Lawyer alleges minister’s minion threatened him
Attorney-at-Law Priyalal Sirisena has lodged a complaint with the Kurunegala police that he has received threats over a court case. The lawyer has recorded one of the three conversations he had with the caller who referred to a Minister while demanding an end to a legal process initiated by him. Sirisena has been warned of dire consequences unless he stopped troubling the minister.
The matter was yet to be brought to the attention of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) officially, sources said.Lawyer Sirisena received two calls on May 21 and 23 from two separate numbers. They came from Kurunegala.
Sirisena was told that he had no protection outside courts.
When The Island sought further clarification, Attorney-at-Law Sirisena said that the caller on all three occasions was the same. He declined to elaborate but stressed the responsibility on the part of law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. (SF)
