Wines and spirits made in Sri Lanka recognised among international brands
International Distillers Limited (IDL) has recently received seven prestigious international awards for its Arrack products, solidifying its position as a leading player in the spirits industry. The company’s success was achieved through participation in two renowned global competitions, namely the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) and the Intercontinental Challenge.
At the IWSC, IDL’s Old Reserve Arrack made history as the first Sri Lankan spirit to win a Gold Medal, affirming its status as a premier example of traditional Arrack blending and placing it among the world’s finest spirits. IDL’s creativity shone through with the introduction of two exceptional Arrack variations. The Old Reserve 55 Overproof Crystal impressed the judging panels, receiving a Silver Medal from the IWSC and a Double Gold from the Intercontinental Spirits Challenge (ISC). Similarly, the Old Reserve 52 East Indiaman, a unique blend with oak, Halmilla, and fresh lime infusion, earned a Silver from the IWSC and a Gold from the ISC.
In addition to these achievements, IDL’s Taprobane Gin, the world’s first Gin made with Arrack as the base spirit and infused with island herbs and spices, was recognized with a Bronze and Silver from the IWSC, and a Double Gold from the ISC, surpassing some of the most esteemed international brands.
