Wife of indicted heroin dealer files bail application

The Court of Appeal yesterday (7) granted the Attorney General time till July 29, to file objections in respect of an application for bail, filed by the wife of an indicted heroin trafficker.
The accused is I.L.K. Fernando. His wife, who had filed the application on behalf of the suspect, is B. C. P. Fernando.
The suspect was arrested by the Beruwala Police on January 3, 2019. He was in possession of heroin in two packets containing 20 g and 30 g.
The Kalutara Magistrate ordered the arrest of the suspect and remanded him. The High Court of Kalutara is to hear the case. The High Court has refused bail.
Consequently, the suspect has filed an application for bail in the Court of Appeal.
President’s Counsel Palitha Fernando appeared with Iranga Wijeyagunewardene for the applicant in the Court of Appeal.
The respondent in the bail application is the Attorney General.
The Court of Appeal bench comprised Justice Menaka Wijesundera and Justice Neil Iddawela.
