Why not sing the National Anthem in the Thai language?

Published

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has issued instructions to his Media Unit to prepare the Independence Commemorative souvenir in the Thai language in addition to E/S/T as the Thai PM will be the chief guest at the 76th anniversary of Independence ceremony on Galle Face Green.

Printing the souvenir in four languages is going to be costly. As an economy measure, I would recommend publishing digitally and giving digital copies saved either in CDs or pen-drives to the dignitaries attending the function.

May I also suggest that the National Anthem be sung in Thai as well at the forthcoming Independence celebration? Let me suggest that the voicing of the lyrics in Thai be done either by Yohani Deloka de Silva or one of the Sinhawansa sisters – Umaria or Umari.
