Why JVP?  Some comments

Reference letter by B.Perera in The Island of o1March. He said, “Since the JVP never ruled the country it is easy to show that they have done nothing wrong…People should tread carefully lest there should be a wave like what brought Gotabhaya into power”. This is highly unlikely because the track records of the two groups are poles apart.

The JVP took up arms against the government twice. The uprising of 1971 was so serious that fourteen countries came to support the government. India sent Air Force pilots and MIGS to fight the JVP.

The second uprising was in 1987. Thus, on two occasions the JVP wreaked havoc in the country.

In 2007-2008 at the country’s war against the LTTE, the JVP sought to defeat the national budget. Had they been successful, it would have been to the advantage of Prabhakaran who was desperate for a life line. These are still fresh in the minds of the people.
