Western Province men’s and women’s teams dazzle at Governor’s Cup rugby

Western Province men’s and women’s teams stole the honours at the Governor’s Cup rugby sevens by winning the Cup championship worked off at Race Course on Saturday (November 18).In the men’s Cup Championship western province beat Central Province 19-12 while in the women’s category of the same event Western Province lasses got the better of Central Province 36-0.

In the plate Championship North Western Province beat Sabaragamuwa 19-10 in the men’s event while Sabaragamuwa overcame North Western Province 29-10 in the women’s segment.

In the Bowl Championship Northern Province emerged the victor in the men’s division while Southern Province took home the silverware in the women’s segment. In the Shield competition North Central Province won the men’s segment while Uva Province won the women’s division. The tournament was organised by the Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) and hosted by the Governor of the Western Province Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Goonethileke.
