Welgama queries removal of Bhanuka from T-20 squad
In response to the controversial removal of middle-order batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa from the Sri Lanka T20 squad for the upcoming Indian tour due to alleged fitness issues, Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa yesterday (22) told Parliament that the decision to remove the batsman had been based on recommendations of the Selection Committee and Coaches.
The Minister made this remark, after SJB MP Kumara Welgama asked why Bhanuka Rajapaksa had been removed from the T20 squad. Welgama requested the Sports Minister to reveal the reasons for the cricketer’s removal as it has caused a controversy.
The Minister told Welgama that it was not appropriate to reveal personal information in the House.
“Bhanuka Rajapaksa has been personally informed why he was not selected. It is not appropriate to discuss such personal matters in the House. This is not the end of his career. He is a good cricketer and he has time. He will definitely make a swift comeback,” the Minister said.
