Weerawansa says no Cabinet decision on resumption of burials

National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa, on Thursday (12), said that a decision on resumption of burial of corona victims couldn’t be taken up by the Cabinet of ministers under any circumstances. Declaring that such a decision should be taken by relevant medical experts, Minister Weerawansa emphasised that in case the burials were to be allowed the public had a right to know the basis.

Minister Weerawansa said so addressing a gathering after distributing Rs 5,000 each among families affected by the coronavirus in the Kaduwela area.

Claiming that a Facebook post by Justice Minister Ali Sabry, PC caused media furore, Minister Weerawansa insisted that the cabinet didn’t decide to do away with an earlier decision taken to cremate all bodies.

There shouldn’t be any dispute over the matter as the country was battling a deadly virus and it required counter measures taken on the basis of expert medical advice, he said. (SF)
