‘We don’t have to ride on the back of other parties for support’ – GL

The newly elected government need not turn to other political parties for support to muster a two-third majority as the voters have reposed their faith on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and given an overwhelming mandate, SLPP President, Prof. G. L. Peiris said on Friday.

“We don’t have to ride on the back of other (political parties) as it was a historic win for the SLPP”, he told a news conference.

He said that Mahinda Rajapaksa will take his oaths as the Prime Minister of the newly elected government on Sunday (9).

Asked about the formation of the new Cabinet of Minister, SLPP Secretary, Sagara Kariyawasam said it will “take a couple of days to work out the modalities”.
