Water Board pushes for northern desalination project

Officials of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board recently visited the Jaffna peninsula to inspect ongoing projects. The delegation included the Chairman of the Board, Nishantha Ranatunga, Deputy Chairman, Sanjiva Wijekoon, and General Manager, Engineer Thilina Wijetunga.

The delegation focused on their primary project in the north to turn sea water to drinking water. Nishantha Ranatunga said that they were trying to expedite the projects as the northerners’ experienced severe difficulties in obtaining drinking water. Ranatunga said that Sri Lanka received the backing of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to implement the project meant to turn seawater to drinking water.
