Warning to those seeking employment in Jordan on visit visas

The Foreign Employment Bureau has warned the public of an organized racket in sending unsuspecting job seekers to Jordan, on visit visas.

A senior spokesperson told The Island yesterday (30) that the Sri Lankan diplomatic mission, in Jordan, has reported that Sri Lankans were among people, from about 10 countries, abandoned, in Jordan,by those who promised employment.

According to him, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment unit, at the BIA, has initiated inquiries after observing groups of Sri Lankans, leaving for Jordan, in the recent past.

The official urged people not to leave the country without the required approvals to avoid being unnecessarily harassed. “Unfortunately, in spite of repeated warnings people continued to be deceived by unscrupulous elements bent on exploiting those seeking foreign employment, the official said (SF)
