Wakishta for ACBC Presidency
Retd DIG Chandra Nimal Wakishta, a long standing member of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress (ACBC) and its former Deputy President and Vice President is contesting for its Presidency at its election of office bearers scheduled to be held on Saturday April 3.
Wakishta has done yeoman service in assisting in implementing numerous Buddhist activities of the ACBC. He was one time the Head of the State Intelligence Service where he had an unblemished career and at present Wakishta serves is a member of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. He joined the ACBC 40 years ago as a young leader, through the All Ceylon Buddhist Students’ Federation Branch of his alma mater, Richmond College, Galle. Wakishta has fulfilled his religious responsibilities in protecting the Buddha Sasana and Buddhist heritage.
As the deputy President and Vice president of the Buddhist Congress, he has served as the Head of cultural and religious, social services, child protection, and investigation and development national councils, in the Working committee for over twenty years, performing a valuable service.
He served the Director of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) in combating terrorism, during the period of the 30 year civil strife in Sri Lanka, performing a yeomen service as a Deputy Inspector General of Police.
