Vinuka wins Under 11 Asian Schools Rapid Chess gold

Vinuka Dihain Wijerathna of Royal College Colombo won the Under 11 Open Category gold medal of the Asian Schools Rapid Chess Championship.

Wijerathna clinched the gold medal with an impressive score of 5.5/7.

The Asian Schools Chess Championship 2023, organized by the Uzbekistan Chess Federation on behalf of the Asian Chess Federation, commenced on July 13 and will run till July 22 .

The tournament features separate categories for Under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17, both for the Open and Girls divisions.

Incidentally, in an intense battle for the top spot, five players achieved the same impressive score of 5.5/7 points.

However, with a superior tiebreak, Vinuka claimed the well-deserved gold. Shakhzod Islamov of Uzbekistan and Suleyman Akhmet of Kazakhstan secured the first and second runners-up positions, respectively.
