Vilochana scores 188 as Nalanda post big score

Rusiru Vilochana top scored with 188 runs and was involved in a huge second wicket stand with Sadew Samarasinghe for Nalanda to post 340 for seven wickets declared against St. Peter’s in the Under 19 traditional cricket encounter at Bambalapitiya on Friday.

Put to bat Nalanda top order clicked together to dominate day one of the encounter. Vilochana who reached his century just after the lunch interval scored 25 fours and a six in his knock which came in 251 balls.

Samarasinghe who was dismissed (run out) just two runs short of a 200-run partnership made 68. For Petes Lakindu Samarajeewa  picked up four wickets.

In reply, St. Peter’s reached 70 for one wicket at stumps. While Chamindu Perera made 24, Vishen Helambage was unbeaten on 31 runs.

Meanwhile at Negombo, De Mazenod were in a bit of trouble at one stage in their match against Maris Stella as they were just 46 runs ahead with five wickets in hand in their second essay. But Sithum Fernando (85) and Thareen Sanketh (59) guided them to safety adding 135 runs for the sixth wicket. They reached 281 for eight wickets at close to force a draw.
