Ever since the biopic was announced, there has been a severe backlash on social media against Sethupathi and the entire team of 800. After Muralitharan’s explosive statement, Vijay Sethupathi has now opted out of 800, directed by MS Sripathy.

Muttiah Muralitharan released another press release regarding his biographical film 800 on October 19. He wrote that he is compelled to put out a statement as a lot of people are protesting against his biopic 800 in Tamil Nadu.

His statement in Tamil is roughly translated as, “I understand that Vijay Sethupathi is facing a lot of pressure from a few people. I do not want a celebrated actor like him facing trouble because of people who misunderstood me. I do not want Vijay Sethupathi to face any problem in future. Hence, I am asking him to opt out of this biopic.”

Vijay Sethupathi shared Muttiah Muralitharan’s statement on his Twitter page and thanked him with a folded hands emoji.

In his statement, Muttiah Muralitharan said that he is confident that his biopic will reach the audience, crossing all hurdles. His statement read, “I never felt discouraged whenever I faced a problem in my life. I overcome them and that’s why I am in this position. I agreed to make a biopic on me thinking that it would help aspiring cricketers. I am sure that I will cross this hurdle. Also, I am confident that this biopic will reach you. Soon, the production house will announce updates regarding 800. I will stand by them.”
