Veteran Tamil journalist killed on Croydon rail track

Veteran Tamil journalist, Vimal Sokkanathan, 75, who worked for the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and BBC Tamil Service died tragically after being hit by a train at East Croydon, London, around 5 pm on August 1 when he was out on a walk, the British press reported.
The London Ambulance Service were called to the scene after a casualty on the tracks was reported to the Police on Tuesday evening.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, Sokkanathan was pronounced dead at the scene. Thameslink Railway tweeted: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train at East Croydon. All lines are blocked whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident.”
