Veteran editor to be felicitated tomorrow

Veteran journalist Edmund Ranasinghe will be felicitated on 03 Oct., with the launch of a Sinhala book ‘Edmundge pattara viplavaya’ (Edmund’s newspaper revolution) at the Presidential Secretariat under the auspices of President Ranil Wickramasinghe.

Former Editor of Irida Divaina, Divaina and The Island Edmund Ranasinghe celebrated his 93rd birthday on April (14), this year.

Ranasinghe joined the Daily News in early 1952. He served Lake House until 1970. He returned to Lake House in 1977 and served there until he accepted the late Upali Wijewardene’s invitation to be the founder editor of Irida Divaina, in 1981.

He held various posts including Janatha News Editor, Dinamina News Editor, Siyarata Editor, Silumina Editor, Irida Divaina Editor-in-Chief, the Divaina and The Island Editor, and Director Editorial of Upali Newspapers during a career spanning nearly four decades.
