Ven. Sobitha asks protesters to vacate buildings after President’s resignation
Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera yesterday (12) urged protesters to vacate the President’s House, Presidential Secretariat (old Parliament building) and Temple Trees as soon as President Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigned.
Ven. Sobitha Thera emphasized that those who had been demanding the resignation of President Rajapaksa should be satisfied as they were able to achieve their primary objective. Hence, there was no need to occupy those government buildings, the Ven. Thera, who played a significant role in the campaign to force President Gotabaya Rajapaksa out of office, said.
The Ven. Thera said so addressing the media at the Jayasekararamaya, Rajagiriya. Several organisations, including trade unions, backed Ven. Thera’s call.The Ven. Thera said that the continuation of the occupation of those buildings posed a security threat. (SF)
