Ven. Saddharathana, Nathasha further remanded; Bruno granted bail
Ven. Rajangane Saddharathana, who was arrested for making statements that could disrupt religious harmony, has been further remanded till 05 July, 2023. The order was issued when the monk was produced before the Fort Magistrate Court.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested the monk on 28 May, in Anuradhapura, in connection with the investigation carried out into a complaint made by Ven. Pahiyangala Ananda Sagara, who alleged that certain remarks made by Ven. Saddharathana were prejudicial to religious harmony.
Stand-up comedian Nathasha Edirisooriya, also arrested on the same charge, has been re-remanded till 05 July. Edirisooriya was arrested in the wake of controversy over certain remarks deemed offensive to Buddhists.
However, Bruno Divakara, the owner of the YouTube channel ‘SL VLOG’ in which Nathasha’s viral video was posted, was granted bail.
They were produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday (21)
The CID arrested the ‘SL VLOG’ owner on 31 May.
Edirisooriya was arrested by the CID on 28 May, at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), while she was trying to fly out of the country.
