The prelate, accompanied by other members of the Maha Sanga presented the treasures to Defence Secretary, Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) during a brief ceremony at the Ministry.

Buddhist scriptures, Buddha statues, a model foot print of the Lord Buddha, a number of model Pagodas embedded with various precious stones and several other exquisite artifacts were also among the treasures offered to be deposited in the Sandahiru Stupa square chamber in Anuradhapura on March 28.

As the construction of hemispherical dome of the gigantic Stupa has been completed, the erection of the square chamber will be inaugurated following the depositing of treasures.

The opportunity is also available for devotees to offer treasures, if any, towards this noble cause from March 20-27 at the temple premises.

In a recent media briefing held at the Defence Ministry Gen. Gunaratne said that a special committee has been appointed to receive the treasures from the public.
