Vavuniya Teaching Hospital staff protest

Health staff of the Vavuniya Teaching Hospital held a demonstration on Wednesday urging the government to take immediate action to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They said that Vavuniya Teaching Hospital too had reached its capacity and that a number of health staffers had contracted the Covid-19.

The demonstrators said that the number of COVID patients who needed oxygen was rising rapidly and that soon they would not be able to meet the demand. They asked the government to lock down the country and increase testing to 100,000 a day. The state sector labs had the ability to increase testing by 300% overnight, they claimed. (DR)
