USD 300 mn in UN funding not only for Parliament
Apropos our lead story, ‘Parliament to receive UN funding amounting to over USD 300 mn’, published in the 05 September edition of The Island, Janakantha Silva, Director, Legislative Services/Director Communication (Acting), informed us yesterday (06) the United Nations was expected to provide USD 300 mn through the new co-operation framework for all development programmes for the next five years in Sri Lanka, and not just only for Parliament.
News Editor’s note:
Our news item was based on a press release issued by Parliament, following Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena’s meeting with UN Resident Coordinator Marc-André Franche. That statement did not mention that the UN funding was for projects in Sri Lanka over the next five years.
