US delegation assesses progress of projects involving Parliament

A delegation from USAID Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Governance was here recently to discuss the recent developments.The delegation was led by Ms. Shannon Green, Assistant to the Administrator of the USAID Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Governance.

A senior spokesperson for Parliament said that discussions with the visiting American delegation covered implementation of Open Government Partnership in Sri Lanka, the functioning of Sectorial Oversight Committees of the Parliament, Parliamentary Caucus for Open Parliament Initiative, and Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus.

The official added that measures that had been taken to ensure democracy, transparency and public participation in the legislative process were also discussed.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Secretary General of Parliament Ms. Kushani Rohanadeera, Chief of Staff and Deputy General Secretary of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne and Assistant Secretary General Hansa Abeyratne participated in the discussions.

Members of the Parliamentary Caucus for Open Parliament Initiative and Members of Parliament Ms. Kokila Gunawardena, Niroshan Perera and Premnath C. Dolawatte were also present at the discussions.
