The U.S. has stood by Sri Lanka with over 240 million dollars in new assistance last year, like fertiliser for farmers, food for school children, and loans for small businesses, American Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung, said yesterday, issuing a message on Sri Lanka’s Independence Day.

“On behalf of the American people and my colleagues here at U.S. Embassy Colombo, I offer heartfelt congratulations to the government and people of Sri Lanka on this momentous occasion – the 75th anniversary of your independence and our 75 years of diplomatic relations,” she said.

Ambassador Chung said for decades, the two countries have worked together toward mutual goals, like protecting the environment, building trade, and maintaining a free and open Indo- Pacific.

“We value Sri Lanka’s partnership and the resilience of its people, and we welcome progress the country continues to make to emerge from the current crisis, including its reform efforts to ensure a strong democracy, stable economy, and good governance to address the needs of all its citizens. We reaffirm our continued support and look forward to many more years of people, progress, and partnership together,” she said.
