UPFA, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya in talks to form alliance

The United People’s Freedom Alliance and the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya have commenced talks to explore possibilities of forging an alliance to contest the upcoming elections later this year.

A meeting took place in Colombo on Sunday where UPFA General Secretary Thilanga Sumathipala, SLFP former General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekera, Kotte former Mayor Janaka Ranawaka and others represented the UPFA.

The PHU was represented by its leader MP Udaya Gammanpila, National Organizer Dhammika Rathmale, Acting Secretary Nalaka Perera, Environmental Secretary Prasanna Amaratunga, Administrative Secretary Thilina Peiris, Legal Secretary Bhupathi Kahathuduwa, Cultural Secretary Shirantha Jayalath and Propaganda Secretary Anjana Udara, party sources said.

The leaders agreed to continue the talks for further rounds to conclude a political party alliance, sources said.
