Unprofessional approach on stage
My Seen ’N’ Heard, last Tuesday, did draw a lot of attention, on social media, and these are some of the views expressed:
Gary Ellis:
Ivan, to use Lyric Props, to remember words, is lazy and unprofessional. Who are teaching these so called performers?
Kamy Lye:
Maybe it’s the modern trend. In most cases, electronics have taken over the world. It’s sad, but that’s the way of the world. We have to cope with it.
Mervyn Dirckze:
During the time I was singing in a band, this was never heard of. We knew all the words of the songs by heart.
Anton Goonetilleke:
As I grew older, I had to have a music stand in front of me with the lyrics. That was somewhat accepted. Some international artistes have a screen prompter in front of them, like the sound monitors. However, holding a mobile phone in one hand and the mic in the other is very unprofessional and when I saw this being done, I really thought how low can we get!
Sujeevan Sriskanthan:
The ‘Device’ is the trend and identity for those who want to follow that ignorant genre.
Come to think of it, how did blind singers, like Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles, perform on stage – playing the piano and singing!
