UNP Gen. Secy’s proposal shouldn’t be taken seriously – SLPP

UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara’s statement shouldn’t be taken seriously, SLPP National List MP and spokesman Prof. Ranjith Bandara said.

Prof. Bandara was responding to Palitha Bandara’s call for putting off presidential and general elections by two years through a referendum.

Pointing out that the UNP had been reduced to just one National List MP in Parliament, lawmaker Bandara said that the proposal was nothing but silly. “Range Bandara does not represent Parliament or any responsible position in the government. Therefore, his latest declaration has no weight,” Prof. Bandara said.

Prof. Bandara said that he had not heard of such a proposal until The Island sought their response. “This sort of thing hadn’t been discussed at all, at any level,” he said. (SF)
