University of Moratuwa win Inter University Chess Championships 2022

Moratuwa University men’s team

 The University of Moratuwa won both the men’s and women’s titles of the Inter-University Chess Championships as they scored full ten points to record convincing victories in the tournament that concluded on Sunday.

In the men’s category, Moratuwa University beat South Eastern, Ruhuna, Sri Jayawardenapura, Peradeniya and Jaffna Universities, while in the women’s events, they beat Universities of Jaffna, Sabaragamuwa, Rajarata, Colombo and Peradeniya.

The Moratuwa men’s team led by Chathulanka Gamage consisted of Khrishna Rahul Jeyanthan, Prasanjith Lorensuhewa, N.P.G. Sithija Lahiru, K.T. Thisen Thiyasara, Anjana Herath, Kaveen Ishara and D.R. Naotunna while the women’s team comprised of V.N.W. Siriwardana (Captain), Anuki Pasquel, Piyumali Karunathilake, W.A. Tanuli Inoshi. Pasaindi Yathra Wijesuriya, Naduni Peththanayake and Sakuni Bandara.

Moratuwa University women’s team

The runner-up position of the men’s championship was won by Sri Jayawardenapura University (aggregated eight points), while Colombo University settled for third place with seven points. The University of Ruhuna also scored seven match points but were placed fourth. Colombo University with seven points were the runners up in the women’s category. Peradeniya with seven points finished third.
