University of Colombo shines at TADHack Sri Lanka 2021
Two teams of the University of Colombo School of Computing (USCSC) have won “TADHack Sri Lanka 2021” competition as well as the “TADHack Global award” for their innovations. TADHack Global 2021 is the world’s largest telco application development hackathon, which is indeed a great opportunity for the developers as well as the society to experience and learn about high-demand modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and latest internet etc. With the collaboration of Dialog Axiata and the hSenid Mobile, the competition was held in September with more than 1000 participants from eight countries including, the UK, USA and Germany.
Among 150 competitors “ICOAE” Team (In Case of an Emergency) from UCSC was the winner of “TADHack Sri Lanka 2021”. – A smart medical emergency management system consists of a smart wrist device , mobile application and a web application which connects patients, guardians, medical service offering companies and ambulances in one. This allows patients to connect immediately in an emergency with a single button press through their smart device. This device is capable of tracking a patient’s location, current temperature, pulse and blood oxygen. This allows emergency service personnel to use the web dashboard to inform the nearest available ambulance and the ambulance driver can track the location of the patient through a mobile application.
The team members were second year students- Yasith Samaradiwakara (Team Leader), Isuru Harischandra, Nisan Abeywickrama, Asela Pathirage, and a First year student Naveen Rajan. The ‘Team Proktara,’ won the second place at the hackathon. Proktara is an all-in-one exam hosting platform. It is ideal for any individual or organization that needs to conduct online evaluations. The winners of this team members were third year students- Suvin Nimnaka Kodithuwakku (Team Leader), Dilhani Gamhatha, Nandula Perera, Dilan Perera, and George Raveen.
Both ICOAE and Proktara teams competed at the TADHack Global Awards and won awards under the ‘Telnyx category’ as well. Both these teams were supervised by Dr. Thilina Halloluwa from the Department of Information Systems Engineering, UCSC and Mr. Pasindu Marasinghe, Department of Computation and Intelligent Systems, UCSC. This was the first-time that two Sri Lankan teams won an international hackathon.
