Unbeaten Gateway wins back-to-back Basketball Championships

Gateway College Juniors comfortably beat Elizabeth Moir School 43-11 to win the Under 13 Inter-International Schools’ Basketball Championship that was hosted by the Colombo International School Colombo. Gateway College beat Colombo International School 16 – 14 at the semi-final and British School in Colombo 15 – 9 at the quarter-final. Last year too, Gateway won the Under 13 tournament by overcoming the same schools.

Earlier in the tournament, Gateway College beat Asian International School 80 – 02 and went on to win the other group stage games by beating Gateway Kandy 42-8 and CIS Kandy 43-3.

Julan Senmitha was named as The ‘Best Defensive Player’ and Ashain Thevarapperuma won the coveted ‘Most Valuable Player’ award for the second successive year.

Gateway’s outstanding performances during the recent years where they have excelled in several National and International School tournaments has set the stage for a few of its players to represent the country in Basketball.
