Two women who allegedly transported weapons used in Beliatte multiple killings arrested
Hakmana Police have arrested two women for aiding and abetting the shooting at Beliatte that led to the killing of five people last week.
The two suspects had allegedly transported three T-56 assault rifles used in the attack, police said.
They had taken the three weapons, on a motorcycle from Karapitiya to Ratgama, on the instructions of an underworld member called ‘Boossa Harsha.’
They were arrested at Ratgama on Monday (29).
The two women, residents of Boossa, are aged 23 and 33.
Hakmana Police are conducting further investigations. On 22 January Ape Janabala Pakshaya leader Saman Perera and four others, accompanying him, were shot dead at Beliatte.
The killings were ordered by Kosgoda Sujee, one of the underworld leaders from the South, according to the police. Sujee is hiding in Dubai.
Perera alias Royal Beach Saman was allegedly involved in the murder of the brother and uncle of Sujee in 2004. In 2016, another relative of Sujee was killed. On 05 June 2022 Asela Sampath, an associate of Sujee, was killed at the Kudawella Fisheries Harbour. Perera is believed to have been involved in that incident as well.
Sujee had earlier tried to kill Perera several times without success, police said.
