Two more COVID-19 deaths recorded
The deceased were two women aged 68 and 81
A 68-year-old woman, who died on October 01 at Jampettah Street, Colombo, was found to have been infected with COVID-19.
The Judicial Medical Officer, who conducted the post-mortem examination, found that she had been infected.
One of her family members had previously tested positive for COVID-19 and others placed under quarantine at home.
The Director-General of Health said she had died due to COVID-19 related pneumonia.
Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera told the media that they divideed COVID19 deaths into two categories, i.e. direct Covid-19 related deaths and indirect Covid-19 related deaths.
Those who died while being treated for COVID19 at a medical facility belonged to the first category while those who died due to other causes, including suicide, but are found to have COVID19 during post mortem investigations belonged to the second category. (RK)
