Two inundated villages evacuated

Officials of the Kilinochchi Disaster Management Centre and Divisional Secretariat commenced evacuating around 380 persons from Walluwar Farm and Navalar Farm villages which were flooded due to the overflowing of the Iranamadu tank.

The families in the two villages were marooned on Thursday. All roads including the one connecting the villages with Kilinochchi over the Pudumurippu tank bund have gone under water.

Officials deployed tractors to transport the villagers to safer areas and provided them with food.

Action had been taken to lay sandbags on some areas of the Pudumurippu tank bund to strengthen it, the officials said.
