Two arrested for stealing copper cables from AG’s office building

The Western Province South Crime Division police nabbed two drug addicts who had stolen copper wires from the Auditor General’s office building in Battaramulla.
The investigation was conducted in response to a complaint received by the Thalangama Police regarding the theft of copper parts from a lightning conductor and the wires of the electrical circuit on the outer periphery of the Auditor General’s Department building.
According to the complaint by the Auditor General’s Department to the police, the value of the stolen wires is Rs 2.1 million.
A senior police officer said that the theft had taken place two months before and the suspects burnt the wires casings and sold the copper by the weight.
The two suspects are residents of Etul Kotte and aged 19 and 20 years. They are electricians by profession.
According to the police, the suspects have cut the wires even while power was on.
The two suspects would be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court, police said.
