Trio expelled from SLFP positions to take legal action against leader
by Chaminda Silva
MPs Mahinda Amaraweera, Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Duminda Dissanayake expelled from the positions of SLFP’s Senior Vice President, Treasurer and National Organizer posts, respectively, have decided to resort to legal action against their removal.
Dissanayake said that they would go to court today (01). The party Chairman who found fault with him and Amaraweera and Alagiyawanne for obtaining ministerial posts from the government, had recently invited Dr Wijayadasa Rajapakshe, a Cabinet Minister of the same government, to the SLFP Headquarters in Darley Road to deliver a special lecture to the SLFP members. “We have serious doubts about the conduct of the Chairman of our party,” Dissanayake said.
Amaraweera said that when the incumbent Chairman assumed duties, the party had 14 MPs. Now, it has about one or two MPs. We always stood for this party and we’ll continue to do so,” he said.
Alagiyawanne said that the SLFP was not anybody’s family estate. The leadership had to listen to the views of other members. “Incumbent chairman welcomes only those who praise him. Those who speak the truth are removed,” Alagiyawanna said.Sarath Ekanayake has been appointed the SLFP Senior Vice President, Hector Bethmage Treasurer and KP Gunawardena the National Organizer.
