Trinity College registered their third outright victory of the season, a huge seven wickets win over Ananda College in their traditional cricket encounter at Ananda Mawatha on Friday. Incidentally, it was Ananda’s second consecutive defeat following the innings defeat suffered at the hands of St. Anthony’s early this week.
With just one batsman scoring over 20 runs in the first innings Ananda needed a special effort in the second inning to save the match. They were 108 runs behind when they commenced the second essay. Dinada Athalage who was playing only his second match came up with a valuable half-century that helped them avoid an innings defeat. Yet with an hour left to score a win need of 60 runs, Trinity had little trouble sealing the win.
Dinuka Tennakoon, Theeraka Ranatunga, Tharana Wimaladarma, and Lakwin Abeysinghe played vital roles in the bowling department for Trinity, while Manula Kularathna and Lakwin Abeysinghe scored 40s for them.
The team captained by Rahal Amarasinghe had recorded wins against Dharmaraja and Gurukula before coming to the match against Ananda. According to Trinity officials, the match against Ananda is their oldest cricket series. The game that concluded at Ananda Mawatha on Friday was their 131st encounter of the series.
