TRC launches SIM re-registration service
The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) has taken steps to conduct a mobile SIM re-registration service throughout the island under the process of updating mobile phone SIMs.It is mandatory for customers using mobile phones to have the SIM card they are using registered in their own name and the TRC informs that they should be aware of the SIMs issued under their national identity card number.By dialing #132#, the mobile phone users can get information related to the phone company they are currently using.
Users can find out if there are SIMs under their ID number in a phone company other than the phone company they are using by calling the customer number of those companies. If another SIM is registered under their identity cards, they should immediately cancel those SIMs.
Without doing so, if any misuse is done through the SIM card, they will have to bear the responsibility for it and will have to spend their time, effort and money to prove its accuracy, the TRC warns.
If the SIM card customer is using has not yet been registered in their name, they should contact the telephone company that owns the SIM card and arrange to register that SIM card.
The initial programme of the countrywide mobile service for SIM card re-registration is scheduled to be held today from 9 am to 4 pm, centering on the Divisional Secretariat offices of the Kandy district.
