The transportation of cattle from the Northern Province had been banned after the detection of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) spreading among cattle in the Mullaitivu district, the Livestock Division of the Ministry of Agriculture said yesterday.
Ministry Additional Secretary, Dr. L.W.N. Samaranayake, said that cattle rarely died of LSD.
As the disease has beeb reported to be present in four districts of the Northern Province, a special veterinary team commenced investigations yesterday.
Dr. Samaranayake said the disease had been reported for the first time in Sri Lanka in 2019.
